SD Tri Club hosts Memorial Aquathon for Jim McCann

The Jim McCann Memorial and 1st Annual McCannMan Aquathlon will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, at La Jolla Shores Beach. The Triathlon Club of San Diego invites the entire triathlon community and friends to join us in celebrating Jim's life and all he has given to us.
We will start with the McCannMan Aquathlon. As a group, we'll swim 500 yards and run 1.5 miles of Jim's aquathlon course. Everyone is welcome to participate in the entire aquathlon or any part of it. (Non-swimmers are encouraged to walk along the beach for the swim portion). We'll be going at a "social pace," so the event will not be timed. After all, Jim was all about participating and having fun. He was also all about the post-race feast. So whether or not you participate in the McCannMan, make sure you're there for the food and the rest of the memorial following the aquathlon.
Jim McCann, one of San Diego’s most visible members of the area multisport community, died Wednesday night (Sept. 20) of an apparent heart attack at the age of 46.
Taking presidency of the Triathlon Club of San Diego eight years ago, McCann is credited with growing the club, with just over 300 members when he stepped in, to the nearly 1,800 current members. The club also was known for drawing top names to monthly club meetings including Dave Scott, Chris McCormack, Peter Reid, Michellie Jones, Bob Babbitt, Tim DeBoom and Mark Allen among others.
